The RR&G Today

Please refer to the RR&G Route Map.

Today the RR&G operates a one-mile loop around the town and mill complex of Long Leaf. Trains are run on an as-needed basis and generally utilize FC&G Motor Car 4. Passengers board at the Commissary/Depot.

See the Museum's website for more for information here.

Operations currently include stops at the Civilian Conservation Corps Museum, the Planer Mill, and the Saw Mill, all of which are on the Long Leaf Loop.

In addition to the loop, the RR&G main line from the Engine House (MP 11.9) to a point just south of Sandersville (MP 11.2), is also serviceable. However, it is not used for regular operations.

The RR&G is working with the Museum staff towards having regular, scheduled operations with uniformed crew members aboard FC&G M4.

Santee River Hardwood #3, a pre-1905 Heisler, is in our Machine Shop and undergoing an operational restoration. While this restoration takes place, most of the RR&G Volunteers are rehabilitating the track and constructing coaches so that when SRH #3 is steaming (by 2024), we will have a railroad on which to run her and a train to haul passengers. This is a very exciting time!

We are recruiting new volunteers to help with railroad operations. Please consider volunteering today as a volunteer M4 operator to help provide regularly scheduled train rides. No experience is needed and you will receive all necessary training. Please contact the museum today if you are interested.
