Recap
Mike and I outlined the time line of
events on engine 106 movement in and out of the car knocker shed. The
first log truck in front of 106 has already been moved, which means that
once the 2nd one has been moved, I am ready to immediately start
reconstructing the track in front of 106. I plan on removing all rails,
digging down about 8-10 inches with the tractor on several passes, then
places down new ties and relaying the track. I will start on that as
soon as we can get the 2nd log truck moved from the track. Mike and I
also outlined that when we move 106, we will place about a dozen gauge
bars on the tracks to prevent the rails from pushing out of gauge and
having 106 drop onto dirt. This alleviated Mike's concern that when we
would move 106, we would be dragging the wheels on dirt with nothing
holding the rails in gauge.
Track Work
George and I dumped one load of large
gravel rock in the gap on the washout on the loop near the front
entrance. We also repositioned the cross tie acting as a buffer dam in
front of the gravel to prevent further washout. I will inspect the
washout again at the Board Meeting to see how it's holding up.
The next area we worked on (since we did
not have enough personnel to work on moving the log truck from in front
of 106) was continued maintenance and track rehab on the wye leading
from the engine to the MoPac junction. The vegetation was
extraordinarily heavy, so we cleared it with shovels, rakes, and the
heftiest weed eater blade we could get out hands on. When then placed a
mixture of dirt, small rack, and large rock to prevent further
vegetation. I do not envision us digging up this track and relaying new
ties in the near future, so this will eliminate the need to continually
cut grass each time we take a car out to continue track work further
down the line.
During and after photos are attached.
Goal of these efforts are to bring this section of track back to active
use so that 2 folks (such as George and myself) can access all track
areas with a motor car, making maintenance easier.
