I spent Friday May 31 spraying
all the right of way track (ROW) I could get to the with the speeder
and/or could spray with the spray wand from the tank to nearby track /
switch stands / points of interest. Having worked a week and a half on
track, it was really fun to spend one day riding around - finally took
time to take in the ride experience and sights more so than construction
/ maintenance focus. All the spraying below took two full tanks of 50
gallons each, so 100 gallons total of spraying solution.
ROW sprayed:
- Entire loop around museum
- Poth engine house lead tracks and their switches
- Portion of storage track from main line switch to derrick car
- Switchback from main line switch to new bridge (including switch area)
- Car knocker shed line from main line switch until covered passenger
wagon (switch area needed heavy spraying)
- Main line from Engine house to current end of operating track (EOT) at
access road near Sandersville
ROW not sprayed:
- Planer mill switch through planer mill siding switchback leg
(I could not get the switch to throw completely, I could only get it
halfway. That, and it needs to be gauge checked before taking any cars
across it. I sprayed what could be reached from the loop with the spray
wand off the tank).
- Storage track from derrick car to end - the derrick car and log car
trucks block the track and the switch would not completely close. Switch
needs attention
A few thoughts:
- At low speed, the motor car can proceed all the way to current EOT at
the access road near Sandersville. It was quite an enjoyable ride and
was neat to see all the remaining log cars in this area.
- Vegetation clearing is needed on the last quarter mile of track toward
Sandersville. It has been sprayed, but needs additional clearing.
